Established in London, England in 1814 by James Purdey this manufacturer still uses the traditional way of gun making apprenticeships, with apprentices starting as young as 16. The apprenticeship lasts a full 5 years, and once completed the gun maker can stamp their initials on the parts they produce. They combine this tradition of gun making with technological advances such as CNC machining, and the latest CAD modeling software. The traditional aspect of the company has remained due to the experience gained by James Purdey under the apprenticeship of Joseph Manton who was one of the renowned gun makers of his time. Queen Victoria owned a set of Purdey Pistols. Specializing in over & under shotguns, bolt action rifles, and double rifles led to many Royal warrants for orders of military weapons.
