| Marlin was started in 1870 in New Haven when John M. Marlin began offering his own line of revolvers and derringers for sale. Their early models, the 1891 and 1893, remained so popular through the decades that they are still in production today. They are currently referred to as models 39 and 336. These guns were used by many exhibition shooters, including Annie Oakley herself. During World War I, Marlin was one of the largest suppliers for machine guns for the US and the Allied forces. Once the war was won, the company began to focus on sporting firearms. In 1924 the company was auctioned to Frank Kenna, and the Kenna family still owns the company today. The goal of Marlin firearms has always been to constantly improve quality. They introduced the first side-ejecting, solid-top receiver in 1889 and the Micro-Groove rifling system was introduced in 1953 to improve accuracy. Most recently in 2004 they unveiled the T-900 Fire Control System for bolt action rimfire rifles. The company is currently located in Gardner, Massachusetts, employees over 200 people and continues to produce single shot shotguns and rifles. |
